Final imovie Project

This is a movie I created to remind my students of the steps in the Scientific Method. Every spring the students in grade through 7 can participate in our Science Fair. They design and complete their projects at home, I hope this will assist them and their parents in completing their projects. The photos are enhanced using PSE, In the video I added the push transition between the images and also the cross dissolve transitions between the stills and video. I added title slides at the beginning and to separate the video from the past science fair projects. I also added some music to the movie and adjusted the volume to here the discussion between the students demonstrating the concepts.

Podcast Episode

My podcast was a reminder to my students about the scientific method, we have a science fair coming up in April for students in grades 3 - 7, and I wanted to create a guide for them to use to design and organize their projects. I want to use my podcast to keep students and parents informed about upcoming events in the Life Science Classroom. I plan to publish an episode bi-monthly.

I used Photoshop Elements to edit the pictures I used in my podcast. Each picture I used the selection tool or mask tool to highlight the poster my daughter and her friend were holding. I then inversely selected the picture and removed the color from the girls so just the poster remained in color. I also used a cookie cutter tool, crop shape to crop the pictures. I then inserted the pictures into another blank file, added color to the background and used the custom shape tool to add the talk balloons and added text to that layer. I really like PSE it is a fun and practical way to edit pictures to add interest to not only the pictures but many other projects. It is "video scapbooking"

TeacherTube Links

Teacher Tube has some real creative projects that I would like to try with my students. The Cell theory rap is one that I thought was creative and would inspire my students to me creative.

I was watching 20/20 Friday night, and one of the stories was about a youtube episode some students with the help of their teacher produced, it is called "Is anybody listening?" it is about the effects the economy is having on students. It is a real powerful story and it really reinforces the power technology has on our society. Present Obama saw this episode and quoted it in his speech and visited the students at their school last week. If you have time watch this.

iTunes Podcast

The podcast that I subscribe to on a regular basis is 60 second science. This is a quick but very informative way to keep up with current science research. Because the episodes are short, students stay engaged and it also initiates discussion and questions which are essential in the science classroom.

2 minute movie

My 7th grade Life Science students are studying Ecology, specifically they are learning about the transfer of energy through ecosystems. To demonstrate this principle, the students dissected owl pellets to explore food chains. Then the students came up with some creative ways to demonstrate their learning. Here is a sample of the posters, power point presentations, rap music, and skits my students came up with.

Article Review

The article I reviewed is about the benefits of One-to-One computing. This is a topic I am interested in because our school is exploring this idea.
